At the very top, above the dome and lantern of the Frauenkirche, the newly made tower cross shines. In a very special way it symbolizes the power of forgiveness. Donated by the British people and the royal family of Great Britain and made by the son of a pilot who once bombed Dresden, it is probably the most striking symbol of reconciliation.

On February 13, 2000, the 55th anniversary of the destruction of Dresden, the Duke of Kent handed over the new tower cross of Dresden's Frauenkirche, financed by British donations. The tower cross was created as a faithful copy of the old salvaged cross by silversmith Alan Smith. On June 22, 2004, it was lifted to its exposed position together with the lantern hood and has since then spoken of the power of reconciled togetherness.
