The baroque altar is a masterpiece by the sculptor Johann Christian Feige. In addition to its rich ornamental and figurative furnishings, the altar is particularly impressive due to its artistic and spiritual depth. At the center is a biblical scene: Christ prays alone in the Garden of Gethsemane while his disciples sleep and the soldiers are already approaching from the city gate to take him prisoner. Based on this moving scene, a stone sermon develops in the altar, the center of which is the message of God's bestowing mercy. Since almost two thousand individual parts were recovered from the altar during the debris removal, its reconstruction was possible. This means that today's altar consists of 80 percent historical material.
